Sports Medicine
Monks trained Kung Fu and used their fighting skills to defend from overthrow of Henan Province and invasion of the temple.
Probably the furthest back record of sports medicine would be in the 5th century at the Shao Lin Temple. Monks trained Kung Fu and used their fighting skills to defend from overthrow of Henan Province and invasion of the temple. Their rigorous training resulted in a variety of sports injuries including much bruising, broken, bones, and muscular injuries. They healed these injuries with Traditional Chinese Medicine techniques such as acupuncture, bodywork, and herbology. Many strategies for decreasing pain, increasing muscle function, and speeding healing were developed here and have been documented historically.
TCM sports medicine has evolved significantly since then and combines modern orthopedic testing with time tested corrective healing methods. I’ve had the pleasure of working with many therapists who are part of big sports franchises such as the NBA, MLB, NHL, and NFL and all are using acupuncture sports medicine to get their athletes back in the game.
